The embattled Mountain Valley Pipeline (MVP) has a shot at completion this year despite a recent setback in federal court, according to management of project sponsor Equitrans Midstream Corp.

CEO Thomas Karam vented about MVP’s arduous regulatory journey during a conference call to review Equitrans’ first quarter earnings. The 303-mile pipeline would supply 2 Bcf/d of natural gas from the Marcellus and Utica shale formations to markets in the Mid- and South-Atlantic regions of the United States.

He told analysts, “we are now more than 100 months from the project’s initial filing with FERC – more than 100 months of analysis, reviews, and scrutiny, and repeated re-issuances of permits.”
