The Bureau of Land Management (BLM) said Tuesday it is seeking public comment for a proposed quarterly oil and gas lease sale in March for Utah’s Green River District.

The lease sale is scheduled for March 10. The 30-day public comment period extends through Jan. 3 regarding 25 parcels covering 32,713.76 acres.

BLM “generated a record $1.1 billion from 28 oil and gas lease sales in fiscal year 2018,” the Department of Interior said. “The state of Utah receives 48% of lease sale revenue generated on public lands in the state and 50% of royalty revenue if energy development occurs.”

Public comments and links to the relevant environmental documents, lists and maps are available online.

The announcement follows the suspension earlier this year by the BLM Utah office of oil and gas leases awarded in September 2018 in the San Rafael Swell area, pending completion of a more extensive environmental analysis.

Utah natural gas production averaged 744 MMcf/d in September, down 7.8% year/year, according to the Energy Information Administration. Crude oil output fell by 5.9% to 102,000 b/d.
