Leticia Gonzales joined Natural Gas Intelligence as a markets contributor in 2014 after nine years at S&P Global Platts, where she was involved in producing the daily and forward price indexes for U.S. electricity and natural gas markets. She joined NGI full time in 2019 to cover North American natural gas markets and news and in 2021 was appointed Price & Markets Editor. Winter Natural Gas Prices Yo-Yo, Settling 11 Cents Lower as Spot Gas Retreats Again

After crumbling as much as 27.5 cents earlier in the day, January natural gas prices on Wednesday hit a wall and bounced back to recover a good portion of the losses. The Nymex January gas futures contract went on to settle at $3.726, down 11.2 cents on the day. February fell 8.9 cents to $3.653 and March dropped 5.2 cents to $3.506.

Natural Gas Futures Fall Through Chimney as Volatility Continues; Spot Gas Eases

February climbed 28.9 cents to $3.742, and March rose 25 cents to $3.558.

The Nymex January futures contract settled at $3.528, down 29.9 cents on the day. February tumbled 30 cents to $3.453, and March dropped 29.8 cents to $3.308.

Winter Natural Gas Prices Slashed as Long-Range Forecasts Trend Warmer; Spot Gas Tanks

Natural gas futures prices came crashing down Friday as weather models all trended warmer for the rest of December, easing some fears about adequate supplies this winter. The Nymex January futures contract plunged 29.7 cents to $3.827, the first sub-$4 settle for the January contract since Nov. 12. February dropped 27.4 cents to $3.753, and March tumbled 25 cents to $3.606.

Natural gas prices plummeted during the Dec. 10-14 week as demand retreated with milder weather moving across the United States. Steep losses of 20-30 cents were seen across much of the country, with far more dramatic declines in the West, Rockies and the Northeast. The NGI Weekly National Avg. plunged 59 cents to $4.25.
