With an anti-fossil fuel push across the Pacific Northwest, Washington Gov. Jay Inslee recently rolled out a climate change program that focuses on electrification to decarbonize.

Inslee’s proposal comes in the wake of anticipated legislation next year to create a cap-and-trade program and a low-carbon fuel standard. Lawmakers earlier this year had directed the state Commerce Department to update an energy strategy published in 2012.

The program calls for the state to spend $428 million to create carbon-free transportation, buildings and production projects. It would attempt to decrease greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions by 35% by 2030, eliminating 30 million metric tons (mmt).
