Three of the largest natural gas operators in North America are challenging FERC’s recently updated policies to review infrastructure approvals, which they said would create “immediate harms and hurdles…to the ultimate detriment of consumers.”

In one letter to the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission, Kinder Morgan Inc. (KMI) and Boardwalk GP LLC asked the five commissioners to reconsider their recent approval of revised policy statements (No. PL18-1-000). Enbridge Inc. followed with a letter in support of their filing.

The revisions were approved in February on a 3-2 vote, with the three Democrats in favor and the two Republican members opposed. The updated policy statements are to guide how future natural gas and liquefied natural gas infrastructure is approved. One...
