Williams announced yesterday that its Cherokee expansion projecthas been placed into service, increasing capacity on theTranscontinental system by about 87 MMDth/d to provide additionalannual firm transportation capacity to serve markets in Georgia.

The $68 million project consists of about 11 miles of 48-inchpipeline looping along the Transco mainline, about four miles of16-inch pipeline replacement along the North Georgia Extension, anda new 15,000 horsepower compressor station in Coweta County, GA.The facilities were required to increase the capacity on Transco’smainline from Butler, VA, to delivery points upstream near MadisonCounty, GA. The Cherokee expansion is Transco’s fifth into itssoutheastern markets in as many years.
