Natural gas futures eased lower in early trading Monday after warmer weather trends showed up in modeling over the weekend. The February Nymex contract was down 4.3 cents to $3.687/MMBtu at around 8:55 a.m. ET.

Over the weekend weather models had appeared poised to move in a “bullish direction” by raising gas-weighted degree day (GWDD) expectations, but this “abruptly fell apart” with notable milder trends on Sunday, according to Bespoke Weather Services.

After both the American and European models warmed “considerably in the medium range” on Sunday, the American dataset “followed up with even more warmer changes overnight,” though its European counterpart did move back slightly colder, Bespoke said.
