  • UK Prime Minister Liz Truss on Thursday announced a package of measures aimed at easing the nation’s energy crisis, including a cap on household energy bills and a massive government-backed fund to boost the liquidity of energy companies. 
  • The government would guarantee household energy bills average about US$2,875 annually. The Department of Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy estimated the plan would save households about $1,150 annually based on current prices. The Treasury would pay for those costs.
  • The government would also establish a $46 billion fund for energy companies grappling with sky high natural gas and power prices.
