Southern Union Co.’s Trunkline Gas Co., a Panhandle Energy pipeline, has completed its Field Zone Expansion project, the company said last Wednesday. The expansion adds 625 MMcf/d of capacity to Trunkline’s system out of Texas and increased delivery to the Henry Hub.

The capacity out of Texas is held by shippers with multi-year firm agreements, the pipeline said. Energy Transfer Partners LP is the anchor shipper on the project. The pipe is currently carrying about 200 MMcf/d. The anchor shipper’s capacity becomes available to it Feb. 1.

“We are excited to get this project in service and allow our customers to begin delivering additional Texas supply to higher-value markets in Louisiana and beyond,” said Rob Bond, Southern Union senior vice president of pipeline operations. “With both pipeline and compressor construction at multiple locations, it was a complex project that required a lot of hard work and cooperation of employees, project shippers, construction contractors and all the regulatory agencies involved…”

The project received environmental approval from FERC last March (see NGI, March 12, 2007). In-service was initially expected in November.

The project included a 45-mile, 36-inch diameter looping pipeline and associated facilities from Jasper County, TX, to the Longville Meter Station in Beauregard Parish, LA, as well as a 13.5-mile, 36-inch diameter Henry Hub lateral along an existing pipeline right-of-way in Vermilion Parish, LA.

Also included was a new 10,350-hp compressor unit at the Kountze Compressor Station in Hardin County, TX; relocation of two 3,000-hp compressor units to the Kaplan Compressor Station in Vermilion Parish; installation of a 10,350-hp compressor unit at the Longville Compressor Station in Beauregard Parish; uprating of an existing compressor unit to 5,100 hp and relocation of that unit to the Kaplan Compressor Station.
