In an update on the force majeure declared Feb. 18 (see Daily GPI, Feb. 19) that caused the shut-in of all points on Matagorda Offshore Pipeline System (MOPS), operator Northern Natural Gas said it has secured the subsea facilities at Matagorda Island 686. An investigatory dive crew that was immediately dispatched to the site found that the source of the outage appears to be the failure of a 24-inch diameter coupling that caused the pipeline to separate, opening the system to seawater, Northern said. “It is uncertain at this time the extent of damage that has been done to the remaining pipeline, fittings and valve assemblies adjacent to the failure location. Measurement of subsea facilities was completed by the dive crew and design work is in progress for the final repairs, which will bypass the damaged portion of the pipeline,” it added. Northern reported completion of its emergency repair plan and said it has submitted the plan for approval to the Minerals Management Service. In addition to ordering materials and continuing to secure a contractor for the repairs through a bid process, Northern said it has located the long-lead items critical to the repairs and has been able to advance the estimated return-to-service schedule for MOPS by two weeks to mid-July.

CIG canceled Friday a force majeure at Morton Compressor Station south of Springfield, CO, and restored station capacity to 382 MMcf/d effective with Timely Cycle nominations for Saturday’s gas day. The force majeure was declared March 4 due to an unforeseen mechanical outage. While physical flows at Morton had been reduced to 360 MMcf/d, CIG said it fulfilled firm nominations during the outage.

Gulf South said Monday it has completed system maintenance at Destin Compressor Station in Clarke County, MS. When the work began March 3, Gulf South had estimated that it would continue for about 22 days.
