The staff of the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission has given an environmental nod to Transcontinental Gas Pipe Line to expand its transmission system in New Jersey by 105,000 Dth/d.

Staff’s environmental assessment (EA) concluded that Commission approval of the proposed facilities, with appropriate mitigating measures, would not constitute a major federal action “significantly affecting the quality of the human environment.”

The $13 million Central New Jersey Expansion project includes 3.7 miles of 36-inch diameter pipeline that would loop Transco’s existing Trenton Woodbury Line located in Bordentown and Mansfield Townships in Burlington County, NJ [CP04-396, PF04-12]. The project would provide new firm transportation service for South Jersey Gas, and is expected to go into service in November 2005.

Transco, a pipeline subsidiary of Williams Cos., also is eyeing a larger expansion project that would boost gas transportation service along its Leidy Line in Pennsylvania and along other portions of its system to Long Island, NY. The $150 million project would add about 100,000 Dth/d of capacity and is expected to go into operation in November 2007.
