Kinder Morgan Energy Partners announced a binding open season for about 250,000 Dth/d of northbound firm transportation capacity on a proposed expansion of the $300-mile TransColorado Gas Transmission system in Colorado. The company said the expansion would support flows into the Rockies Express project, a 1,350 mile 2 Bcf/d gas pipeline system that would bring Rocky Mountain gas to Ohio and ultimately to markets in the Midwest and Northeast.

The proposed Blanco-Meeker expansion would link TransColorado to several major interstate and intrastate pipelines, gathering systems and local distribution company systems, including the Entrega Pipeline, which will become the upstream leg of Rockies Express.

Kinder Morgan said southbound flows on TransColorado would not be adversely affected by the project. The incremental transportation capacity would be added through installing compression and modifying the pipeline configuration. The open season started Monday and will conclude on March 17. TransColorado extends from the Greasewood Hub in Rio Blanco County, CO, to an interconnection with El Paso Natural Gas, Transwestern and Southern Trails interstate pipelines at the Blanco Hub in San Juan County, NM.

The company is in the process of completing its North Expansion Project from the Piceance Basin to the Greasewood Hub through the addition of about 4,000 horsepower of new compression, a 24-inch diameter pipeline and meter facilities. The facilities will permit TransColorado to deliver an additional 300,000 Dth/d of Piceance Basin gas to the Greasewood Hub. A company spokesman said northbound capacity on the system already is at about 400,000 Dth/d. Southbound capacity currently stands at 450,000 Dth/d.
