Transcontinental Gas Pipe Line announced that it is currently in the planning stages to develop an expansion of its pipeline system in the Northeast United States. Known as the Sentinel Expansion Project, Transco said the endeavor could have a capital cost of up to $300 million.

Transco said it is considering market-area receipt points at Leidy, PA, and the Cove Point LNG facility in Cove Point, MD. While preliminary analysis indicates that the project capacity would be approximately 250 Mdt/d, the ultimate project design will largely depend on the results of an open season for the project. The company said it is contemplating a target in-service date for the project of November 2004.

Earlier in the week, Transco received a FERC certificate for its Momentum Project, which will increase capacity on its mainline by 358,898 Dth/d to serve generation and traditional markets in the Southeast region (see Daily GPI, Feb. 14). The Federal Energy Regulatory Commission also granted a certificate of public convenience and necessity to Seneca Lake Storage LP for a new storage project in Schuyler County, NY.

Transco ‘s $197 million Momentum project will include the addition of 64 miles of 42 and 40 inch looping pipeline in Mississippi, Alabama and Georgia, as well as 45,000 hp of new compression. Transco expects the new facilities to become operational on May 1, 2003.
