It must have been cold somewhere in the East on at least one day last month. That was the day that Williams’ Transco pipeline established a peak day delivery record of 8.73 million dekatherms.

The company said the record-breaking deliveries occurred on Dec. 20, 2004. The new peak-day mark surpasses the previous high of 8.34 million dekatherms that was established on Jan. 23, 2003. This represents enough natural gas to serve the energy needs of more than 30 million U.S. homes on an average day.

“The majority of our market area experienced colder than normal temperatures, and our employees did a great job of responding to significant increases in demand,” said Phil Wright, senior vice president of Williams’ gas pipeline unit. “This was a tremendous team effort that allowed us to quickly respond to our customers’ needs.”

The 10,500-mile Transco pipeline system extends from Texas, Louisiana, Mississippi, and offshore Gulf of Mexico through Alabama, Georgia, South Carolina, North Carolina, Virginia, Maryland, Pennsylvania and New Jersey to the New York City metro area.
