Williams subsidiary Transcontinental Gas Pipe Line has filed an application with the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission seeking authorization to expand its system in New Jersey by 105,000 Dth/d. The $13 million Central New Jersey Expansion Project will provide new firm transportation service for South Jersey Gas.

“The need for natural gas continues to increase in this region of the United States. As a result, we are seeing more demand placed on the region’s existing pipeline infrastructure,” said Doug Whisenant, senior vice president of Williams’ natural gas pipeline business. “Smaller-scale projects like this one play a pivotal role in helping maintain firm access to supply.”

The project includes about 3.5 miles of new 36-inch pipeline in Burlington County, NJ. Pending FERC approval, construction is scheduled to begin in the summer of 2005 and is expected to go into service in November 2005.

Transco also is planning a much larger expansion project that would increase gas transportation service along its Leidy Line in Pennsylvania and along other portions of its system to Long Island. An open season for the Leidy to Long Island project ended July 13. The $150 million expansion would add about 100,000 Dth/d of capacity and is expected to be in service in November 2007.
