TransCanada has posted short-term firm transportation servicefor November 2000 through March 2001, and is accepting bids through3 p.m. MDT today. Because TransCanada does not yet have NationalEnergy Board-approved tolls beyond the end of 2000, all of the bidsfor capacity may be adjusted for bids that extend beyond Jan. 1.

If the prices were adjusted, TransCanada’s Mike Ritsch said itwould require the shipper to pay the higher bid price or theapproved minimum toll of that path. Any shippers requestingcapacity beyond Jan. 1 would have to agree to this adjustment inwriting if their bids are accepted. Requests for individual monthswill be allowed if the shippers would prefer to only bid forNovember and December capacity and not be subject to a possibleadjustment Jan. 1, 2001.

System segments and service periods available for biddinginclude these long-haul routes from Empress: Saskatchewan,Manitoba, Emerson, Eastern Zone (CDA), Eastern Zone (SWDA), NiagaraFalls and Chippawa. Available short-haul routes are available fromSt. Claire to Union SWDA and Cons. SWDA; and from Kirkwall toNiagara Falls and Chippawa. Bids on other paths within the segmentsalso will be considered. A separate bid is required for eachservice period and each system segment being bid. Bids also will beaccepted for all or part of the capacity available on any systemsegment.

If the bid is accepted, the successful bidders must providefinancial assurance in a form acceptable to TransCanada for up to100% of the value of the winning bid.
