Last month, RRC issued 22 permits to drill oil and gas wells in the East Texas area, aka District 6, up sharply from 12 in August 2021.

In RRC’s Midland District, aka District 8 and spanning much of the Permian Basin, the state’s top oil and gas regulator issued 429 drilling permits in August. Last month’s drilling permit count represented a 20% jump from 357 issued in the year-ago period.
