Talos Energy Inc. and Carbonvert Inc. are in talks with Chevron Corp. to join them in advancing a carbon capture hub southeast of Houston near the massive petrochemical complex.
Houston-based Talos, whose upstream exploration is focused in the Gulf of Mexico, is developing several carbon capture, sequestration and utilization (CCUS) projects for the Gulf Coast. Talos and Carbonvert last year took the sole winning bid in a Texas General Land Office (GLO) sale for their potential Bayou Bend CCS site in Jefferson County.
The Bayou Bend CCUS venture, as designed, may ultimately sequester 225-275 million metric tons of carbon dioxide from the shallow waters near Beaumont and Port Arthur. The GLO bid was for more than 40,000 gross acres.
