White House Exempts Allies from Steel, Aluminum Tariffs

In the final hours before new tariffs on steel and aluminum imports were to take effect, the White House late Thursday issued a trio of proclamations to fine tune the tariffs, exempting several allied nations with whom negotiations were ongoing.

DOE Nominee Dodges Questions on ‘Pause’ in LNG Permits

Reading from the same playbook that Energy Secretary Ernest Moniz used at his confirmation hearing in April, President Obama’s nominee for assistant secretary of the Department of Energy’s (DOE) Fossil Energy Office dodged direct questions on whether the department plans to place a pause in approving liquefied natural gas (LNG) export permits later this year (see Daily GPI, April 10).

Sen. Ron Wyden (D-OR), the incoming chairman of the Senate Energy and Natural Resources Committee, has announced that members of his senior staff will include Joshua Sheinkman, staff director; Sam Fowler, chief counsel; and senior counsels Dan Adamson, Patty Beneke, David Brooks, Michele Miranda and Todd Wooten. Drew Johnston and Cisco Minthorn also will be part of the counsel staff. Senior professional staff will include Isaiah Akin, Meghan Conklin, Kevin Rennert, Allen Stayman and Sara Tucker. Keith Chu has been tapped to be press secretary, and Samantha Offerdahl will be press assistant.
