Recent acquisitions have put Australia’s BHP Billiton Ltd. in the “shale of the shales” and positioned it to be a low-cost provider in the development-friendly United States, the company’s petroleum unit chief, J. Penny Gas, Anyone? 1-Cent Quote Rung Up at Opal

Incredible as it may seem, at least one Rockies trader was willing to let gas go for the weekend at a penny Friday. IntercontinentalExchange (ICE) reported that a 1-cent deal was among 84 trades done on its on-line system. Obviously very little changed hands at such a low level, as other Opal quotes on ICE ran as high as $1.31 and the point averaged about 95 cents Friday in NGI’s survey.

Federal officials Thursday provided Enbridge Gas Distribution (EGD) with an additional C$785,000 Thursday to help launch a hybrid project using a fuel-cell and gas expansion turbine plant in Toronto.
