WSI Still Sees Chilly Winter Ahead for Eastern States

Adding weight to the near-consensus winter forecast, Andover, MA-based WSI Corp. said the next three months will bring cooler-than-normal temperatures to the East and South Central United States, with above-normal temperatures dominating the West and North Central regions. Based on its forecast and population-weighting algorithms, WSI said it expects gas and electricity demand this winter to be about the same as last year.

October Futures See Weakness on Expiration

October natural gas futures went off the board on Monday with a bearish bang as values dropped under the weight of the recent advance. October slid 25.5 cents on the day to terminate at $3.730, while the November contract wasn’t nearly as weak in trimming 11.8 cents during the regular session to $4.830.

August natural gas recorded a low of $5.470 before settling at $5.523, down 14.1 cents on the day and 58.1 cents lower than the previous week’s close.
