Japan Seeks to Join Trade Pact

Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe said his country wants to be included in the Trans-Pacific Partnership (TPP), which could hasten the export of liquefied U.S. gas to Japan. TPP currently encompasses 11 nations in Asia and the Americas. Randy Bhatia, an analyst with Capital One Southcoast, said Japan’s membership in TPP could boost efforts to export LNG to the country.

U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service Extends Sage Grouse Comment Period

Noting that it wants to give the public an adequate opportunity to review and comment, the Interior Department’s U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service (FWS) said Wednesday that it is extending the public comment period on two proposed rules: to list as endangered the gunnison sage grouse, which is found south of the Colorado River in Colorado and Utah, and to designate 1.7 million acres of critical habitat for the bird under the Endangered Species Act (ESA).

The manager would ” assist in organizing and managing efforts to enact a comprehensive set of regulations and reforms in key natural gas producing states,” with emphasis on the Appalachian region. The selected applicant would help “create and manage strategic coalitions and relationships with industry, regulators, policymakers, “grasstops” opinion leaders” and other nongovernmental organizations. Dow Exec Sees Significant Gas Demand Increase Over Next Two Years

A Dow Chemical Co. executive said he believes the chemical industry will need several additional Bcf/d of natural gas in as little as two-years’ time, when a long list of petrochemical plant projects begin to come online. It’s a demand that should be easy to meet, he said, as long as the United States hasn’t given away its competitive advantage in the marketplace — a gift from shale gas — through the undisciplined export of liquefied natural gas (LNG).
