In North America, development of liquefied natural gas (LNG) infrastructure is a bit like the weather: wait a while and it will change. An industry once intent on importing LNG to the United States five years later is equally enthusiastic about exporting LNG from North America.

Looking to increase natural gas demand, Pennsylvania is pushing for more drivers to convert vehicles to run on the fuel. The Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection (DEP) published a guidance document late last month arguing that vehicle conversion is allowed under the state’s existing emissions standards.

No hearings have been set as yet for deciding the fate of several natural gas safety bills alive in the California legislature. They will wait for further committee hearings in mid-August when state lawmakers return from a month-long recess that begins Friday. Meanwhile, a number of other states are considering fracking and/or pipeline safety legislative proposals, including Massachusetts, Pennsylvania and Texas.
