Natural gas futures values crashed down to last week’s price levels following news Thursday morning from the Energy Information Administration (EIA) that a larger-than-expected 31 Bcf storage build occurred during the week ending April 2.

Two days and 40 cents higher appeared to be enough for natural gas futures traders for the short term as futures values returned to earth on Tuesday. The May contract sliced 18.1 cents off of its price to close the regular session at $4.096.

With a little help from triggering technical support on the charts, May natural gas futures values shot higher in Thursday morning trade following news from the Energy Information Administration (EIA) that only 12 Bcf was injected into underground storage for the week ending March 26.

Following a small rebound in values on Friday, April natural gas futures on Monday resumed the recent downtrend, notching a low of $4.036 before closing out the regular session at $4.079, down 9 cents from Friday’s finish.
