Questerre to Defer Utica Shale Projects

Questerre Energy Corp. said late Monday it is deferring two exploration projects in its primary development area, the Utica Shale in Quebec’s St. Lawrence Lowlands, and will decide whether to proceed after the provincial government’s environmental review panel issues a report on shale gas development in February.

Administration Supports Drilling Study, DRBC Proposal

The Obama administration fully supports a cumulative study of the effects of natural gas drilling in the Marcellus Shale, but it also supports the Delaware River Basin Commission’s (DRBC) decision to release proposed rules that would allow some natural gas development projects before that study is completed, according to a letter written by Brigadier Gen. Peter A. DeLuca.

For the second time in less than a month the Delaware River Basin Commission (DRBC) has delayed release of proposed regulations that may dictate how portions of the Marcellus Shale are developed. The proposed rules now aren’t expected until November or December.

Reduction of Trading Obligations Underlies Dynegy’s Quarterly Loss

Its close-to-defunct risk management business, plus its former communications business and litigation costs, tacked on another large loss for Dynegy Inc.’s second quarter. The company Friday reported a net loss of $290 million, or $1.00 per diluted share, $240 million of which were connected with its former businesses.
