As Europe’s natural gas markets unbundle and gas supplies from the North Sea decline, gas company executives from the European Union and its suppliers projected a larger role for liquefied natural gas (LNG) and debated the development of a global gas market at the 22nd annual European Autumn Gas Conference in Dusseldorf earlier this month.

CA Regulators Approve Unbundling for SoCalGas Pipe/Storage System

A comprehensive settlement among stakeholders to further unbundle Southern California Gas Co.’s in-state transmission and storage operations was approved by California regulators Tuesday. The vote on the long-delayed measure, however, was split 3-2 with one of the majority appointees of current Gov. Gray Davis joining two holdover commissioners in approving the disputed settlement.

Retail Gas Choice a Hard Sell in Colorado

There are still no takers in a plan to unbundle Colorado’s gas utilities, but at least two utilities may be warming to the idea. A meeting in mid-July of the Colorado Public Utilities Commission (PUC) to discuss natural gas local distribution company unbundling, gas utility plans and consumer issues concluded with only two companies — the largest ones serving the state — reporting that they might provide unbundling programs. Just not now.
