Colder Forecasts Boost Most Prices

The market proved Friday it had at least one more trick left up its sleeve, rebounding at a large majority of points despite The Weather Channel’s (TWC) calling for warmer-than-average weekend temperatures in nearly all regions except Western Canada and the upper reaches of the West. Cash prices did have a bit of support from prior-day futures, but it seemed that weekend declines of industrial load would have largely offset that.

It was trick and treat for Westport, CT-based NGS Energy LP on Halloween when it added to its portfolio of merchant natural gas storage facilities on the Gulf Coast and announced that it obtained FERC approval for its Leaf River Energy Center LLC in Mississippi.

Prices Mostly Up Again, But Face Screen Pressure

The cash market was able to sustain mostly moderate price increases through a second day Thursday, but may be hard pressed to score a hat trick Friday after major retreats in Nymex’s energy futures complex. The gas screen fell nearly 20 cents in response to a government report showing that net storage refills were already under way last week.
