Calgary-based PanCanadian Petroleum Ltd. agreed Friday to acquire cross-town independent Causeway Energy Corp. for C$65 million ($43 million), a deal that includes all of Causeway’s U.S. assets in Montana and Canadian assets in Southern Saskatchewan and Alberta. In the first quarter, Causeway reported an average production of 9,366 Mcf/d, with 99% in natural gas — an increase of 50% over the first quarter of 2000.

1,600 Virginians Without Heat after Line Explodes
United Cities Gas Co.’s two-inch diameter, 7.2 MMcf per hour gasline that connects with a town border station in Wytheville, VAexploded Sunday morning, destroying a house and business. Franchise Fee Battle Continues in Tiny TX Town
PG&E Gas Transmission Texas (PG&E GT-T), a subsidiary of PG&E Corp., and Southern Union Gas Co. said last week they will continue to fight a judgement awarding franchise fees from marketer sales to the City of Edinburg, TX (Pop. 29,885). They said they will appeal a judgment handed down in the 92nd district court in Hidalgo County, TX, even though the judge reduced the award under an August 1998 jury verdict.
