FERC RTO Settlement Talks Kick Off Today

FERC administrative law judges (ALJs) this week will bring together the three Northeast independent system operators (ISOs) and Southeast transmission owners in response to a recent Federal Energy Regulatory Commission order designed to establish a total of four regional transmission organizations (RTOs) in the United States, with one dedicated to each region: the Northeast, Southeast, Midwest and West.

EIA: Natural Gas Use to ‘Nearly Double’ by 2020

Natural gas is the “fastest growing primary energy source” according to a new report published in the International Energy Outlook 2001 (IEO), put together by the Energy Information Administration (EIA), with projections that its use will “nearly double” by 2020, providing a “relatively clean fuel for efficient new gas turbine power plants.”

Amerex Growing Volumes Through BTU Buy

Houston-based Amerex Natural Gas Inc. and sister company AmerexPower Inc. together bought the gas and electricity brokeragebusinesses of Houston-based BTU Brokers Ltd. for an undisclosedprice. As a result, Amerex’s daily average of physical and papergas deals grew 12.4% to $287 million, and physical and paper powerdeals increased 5% to $175 million for a combined annual value of$121 billion in gas and power deals.
