Barclays Raises 2010 Gas Price Forecast

Revised projections show less liquefied natural gas (LNG) coming to the United States than analysts at Barclays Capital previously thought. However, domestic production growth has been more robust than they expected. Gas will need to displace coal for power generation in order for the storage injection season to end with about 4 Tcf underground, the analysts said in a recent note.

San Diego-based Sempra Energy is thought to be negotiating with the Royal Bank of Scotland (RBS) to buy back RBS’s 51% interest in the two firms’ joint venture trading unit, RBS Sempra Commodities. Two sources in the financial and energy trading space told NGI Thursday that this would make sense for the U.S. energy holding company if it can get the right price.

Repsol Exec: Canaport Volumes to Grow

Anyone watching North American natural gas prices might blanch at the thought of christening a liquefied natural gas (LNG) import terminal, but Spain’s Repsol forged ahead recently with the opening of its Canaport facility at Mispec Point, near Saint John, NB. Repsol Energy North America (RENA) President Phil Ribbeck noted that winter is coming and he expects cargo traffic to ramp up soon and into next year.

Skilling Wants Do-Over or Dismissal of Convictions

Thought convicted Enron Corp. CEO Jeffrey Skilling was yesterday’s news? Think again. Skilling’s legal team is scheduled to argue in federal appeals court Wednesday that its client’s convictions should be dismissed because of “egregious” misconduct by the Enron Task Force. Based on evidence that the defense recently obtained and on recent appeals court rulings, Skilling may stand a chance to see some of his convictions thrown out.
