City of San Bruno Challenges CPUC Gas Safety Meeting

San Bruno, CA, the suburb south of San Francisco that endured a devastating natural gas pipeline rupture and explosion almost three years ago, on Wednesday filed a motion with California state regulators calling for postponement or changes in an upcoming two-day utility safety symposium. And the regulators on Thursday said they will postpone the event.

PG&E Foresees San Bruno Settlements by Year-End

Nearing the second anniversary of the 2010 natural gas transmission pipeline rupture and explosion in the San Francisco suburb of San Bruno (see Daily GPI, Sept. 13, 2010), Pacific Gas and Electric Co. (PG&E) is hoping to reach a global settlement on four ongoing state regulatory proceedings that are plaguing the multi-billion-dollar combination utility, according to PG&E Corp. CEO Anthony Earley.

PA Township Fracking Ban Question Cleared for Ballot Inclusion

A Pennsylvania judge has denied a request from a wealthy Pittsburgh suburb, apparently clearing the way for a controversial referendum that would ban hydraulic fracturing (fracking) to be placed on the Nov. 8 ballot, according to Peters Township Marcellus Shale Awareness (PTMSA), an environmental group that drafted the proposed referendum.

CNG, LNG Fueling Station Opens in Southern California

Reinforcing a growing trend toward dual natural gas transportation fueling outlets, a Los Angeles industrial suburb, the City of Commerce, last Monday opened a fueling station offering both compressed natural gas (CNG) and liquefied natural gas (LNG). The new term is LCNG fueling, according to Seal Beach, CA-based Clean Energy Fuels Inc., which is providing the LNG and operating/maintenance at the station under contract to the city.

California City RFP Eyes ‘Green Gas,’ Renewable Credits

The Silicon Valley suburb of Palo Alto, CA, has issued a request for proposals (RFP) seeking marketing and administrative help expanding its green energy programs to “green gas” and renewable energy credit (REC) segments. A pre-proposal teleconference will be held Jan. 30 for prospective bidders, and bids are due Feb. 12 with a projected May 1 start for winning bidders.

Columbia Restores Service to VA Customers Affected by Pressure Drop

Columbia Gas of Virginia reported Friday it had restored natural gas service to most of the nearly 4,000 customers in a Virginia suburb who were affected last week when a delivery station near Dulles Airport lost pressure, forcing utility workers to go from home to home to shut off meters to prevent gas from leaking or other potential mishaps until pressure returned.
