PG&E Pipe Safety Upgrade Plan Funding Stalled

Already subjected to pointed criticism from regulators and lawmakers, a $2.2 billion, four-year plan for enhancing Pacific Gas and Electric Co.’s (PG&E) natural gas pipeline system is not likely to be approved by the California Public Utilities Commission (CPUC) anytime soon, PG&E utility President Chris Johns told financial analysts Thursday on an earnings conference call.

Heat No Deterrent to Stout Storage Build; August Drops

August natural gas retreated Thursday as traders acknowledged a robust increase in gas storage even as major energy markets were subjected to brutal heat. At the close August had fallen 10.5 cents to $4.395 and September had shed 10.7 cents to $4.362. August crude oil added 73 cents to $99.13/bbl.

MMS Sees Lili’s Damage as ‘Not Significant’

Only six platforms, out of 800 subjected to the full force of Hurricane Lili in the Gulf of Mexico earlier this month, sustained severe damage, according to a preliminary report by the Minerals Management Service (MMS).
