Trading for the last week of the August swing market and for September bidweek got off to quiet starts Monday. Mild bullishness reigned in next-day numbers at most points, with quotes ranging from flat to just over a nickel higher. Tiny dips were recorded at a few western points.

New Law Starts CA On Path to Tougher Power Plant Operating Rules

Under a new California law passed this year (SB 39XX) to tighten private sector power plant maintenance and operating standards, a newly created three-person committee will meet next week to begin a two-month process for cranking out the tougher state standards early next year. The California Independent System Operator (CAISO) will submit draft rules for the committee’s initial review Dec. 20.

After Long Journey, Guardian Pipeline Starts Deliveries

Almost four years after the project was proposed, 142-mile interstate Guardian Pipeline system started operations on Dec. 7, transporting gas to markets in northern Illinois and southern Wisconsin from interconnections with ANR Pipeline, Alliance, Northern Border, Midwestern Gas Transmission and Natural Gas Pipeline of America at the Chicago Hub near Joliet, IL. Aftermarket Starts Mixed But With Bias to Downside

The start of the November aftermarket saw a decidedly mixed bag of price movement Thursday. Compared with last-of-October numbers, Nov. 1 pricing ranged from about half a dollar lower (San Juan Basin) to a little more than a dime higher (SoCal border), with many gradations between those extremes. Overall, the negative changes outweighed the positive ones.
