Lack of Fundamental Support Stalls Bullish Streak
Cash prices lost the support they had been deriving from strong energy futures Tuesday, and a near-total lack of cooling load in northern market areas appeared to be finally bringing a three-day upward run to a halt. Flat numbers dominated trading, with few points outside the San Juan/Rockies market varying by more than a nickel up or down from unchanged.

Futures Downtrend Stalls as Traders Await Fresh Storage Data
Tuesdays have been a natural gas bull’s savior as of late. Making it three in a row, futures rebounded yesterday as traders once again were in a buying mood ahead of Wednesday’s weekly storage report. Fighting against a gap lower open and a quick move down to $4.05, buyers stepped up their efforts mid-morning and watched as prices bubbled higher throughout much of the rest of the session. Although small, the one-cent advance leading to yesterday’s $4.123 closing price was claimed as a victory by bulls who have found little to like about this market thus far in 2001.
Gulfstream Files While Buccaneer Stalls
Williams’ Buccaneer Gas Pipeline was the first to file an underwater Florida-bound project with FERC on Sept. 30 (see NGI Oct. 4), but Coastal Corp.’s competing Gulfstream Natural Gas System moved to the lead last week, filing its project three days after Buccaneer’s filing was rejected on technical and environmental grounds related to new filing requirements. FERC told Buccaneer to come back with a complete filing.
