Newfield Exploration Co. said it expects 1Q2017 production will likely exceed the high end of its guidance for the quarter, thanks in large part to enhanced completions at 16 wells the company drilled recently in Oklahoma’s stacked reservoirs.

Gastar Exploration Inc. has acquired additional working and net revenue interests in 66 gross (9.5 net) producing wells and 5,670 net acres of additional STACK oil and gas leasehold in Kingfisher County, OK.

Newfield Exploration Co. offered what some analysts took to be a conservative outlook for activity in 2017, but during a conference call Wednesday, CEO Lee Boothby said the company is ready “to step on the accelerator” when stronger commodity prices and incremental cash flow give it the incentive.

Kingfisher Midstream (KFM) is expanding its natural gas gathering/processing and crude oil gathering systems in Oklahoma’s Sooner Trend of the Anadarko Basin, mostly in Canadian and Kingfisher counties (the STACK play). The move comes as producer activity is increasing, KFM said.

Alberta government investment arm Alberta Investment Management Corp. (AIMCo) has agreed to acquire a 28% stake in Howard Energy Partners (HEP) from EnLink Midstream Partners LP. Continental Resources Inc. released results of a record well Wednesday drilled in the overpressured window of its acreage in the Sooner Trend of the Anadarko Basin, mostly in Canadian and Kingfisher counties, OK (aka, the STACK).

Devon Energy Corp., which ran five rigs in the U.S. onshore during the third quarter, may have as many as 10 in operation by year’s end, the Oklahoma City-based independent said Tuesday.

Though often overshadowed by its Permian cousin to the south, the Anadarko Basin, with its stacked reservoirs, is generating plenty of buzz in its own right heading into 2017.
