Eagle Ford Shale Water Use In ‘Developing Stage,’ Says Official

Texas keeps getting hotter and drier, and aquifer water levels keep declining as homeowners, farmers and oil and gas drillers keep pumping water for their various uses. However, one water watcher told NGI’s Shale Daily he does not expect curtailments on water use for drilling/hydraulic fracturing (fracking) in the Eagle Ford Shale.

Traders Mull Resilient Market, Yet May Weakens

May futures were slightly lower on the day Friday, but traders saw fresh buying entering the market. The buying came late in the session and sparked an 8-cent rally to pick the market off session lows. At the close May was lower by 2.7 cents to $4.362 and June eased 2.1 cents to $4.437. May crude oil continued higher, adding a hefty $1.22 to $107.94/bbl.

Interior Issues New OCS Drilling Rules; More to Come

Following up on its investigation of offshore drilling practices sparked by the major rig explosion and oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico last spring, the U.S. Department of the Interior (DOI) has formalized two new rules it said will help improve offshore drilling safety and spill prevention. The new rules came under immediate attack from producers, who argued they would extend the moratorium on deepwater drilling in the Gulf of Mexico even after the ban was lifted.
