Annual Hurricane Impact on GOM Production Actually ‘Modest,’ Says Report

An analysis of Gulf of Mexico (GOM) oil and natural gas production data spanning 45 years determined that the average annual impact from hurricanes is “relatively modest,” and the impact on supply is “typically short-lived,” according to energy consultant IHS.

Dynegy Inc. has closed the sale of its U.S. communications business, including a high-capacity broadband network spanning more than 16,000 miles with access points in 44 U.S. cities, to an affiliate of 360networks Corp. Financial terms of the deal, first announced in late March, were not disclosed. CEO Bruce A. Williamson said the sale finalizes Dynegy’s exit from communications. “The Dynegy you see now — and into the future — is one built around its core energy businesses, which include power generation, natural gas liquids and regulated energy delivery.”

Enterprise, Shell Grab Pipe Spinoffs

Enterprise Products Partners L.P. reported Monday that itsoperating subsidiary has acquired ownership interests in five naturalgas pipeline systems and related assets in the central Gulf of Mexicofrom El Paso Energy Partners, L.P. for $112 million in cash. The ElPaso unit was forced to sell the assets as part of the Federal TradeCommission’s approval of the El Paso Energy/Coastal Corp. merger,which was completed Monday as well (see Daily GPI, Jan. 30).
