Petrohawk Makes ‘Significant’ Discovery in Eagle Ford Play

Independent producer Petrohawk Energy Corp. Tuesday announced a “significant” natural gas field discovery in the Eagle Ford Shale in South Texas, long believed to be the source of much of the oil and natural gas produced in the prolific Austin Chalk.

Transportation Notes

TransColorado expects to complete repairs sometime Thursday on an unspecified force majeure event that occurred Sunday at Whitewater Compressor Station in Mesa County, CO. Flows for the gas days of Sunday and Monday were not impacted, TransColorado said, but effective Tuesday until further notice, it will limit volumes through Segments 220 and 240 to 362,000 Dth/d and 412,000 Dth/d, respectively. “At this level of scheduled quantities, AOR/IT, secondary [and] primary FT quantities are at risk of not being fully scheduled,” the pipeline said, adding that as the repairs progress, additional scheduled quantities may become available on an intraday basis. TransColorado reminded customers that maintenance at Whitewater and Dolores compressor stations is still set for Wednesday and has an additional impact on those segments. Capacity for Wednesday’s gas day through Segment 220 will be limited to 350,000 Dth and capacity through Segment 240 will be limited to 400,000 Dth.

Tidelands Expects Permit for Mexico’s First Storage Field in 3Q2007

Tidelands Oil & Gas Corp. said it expects a final permit for development of the 50 Bcf Brazil field, which would be Mexico’s first natural gas storage field, sometime between July and November 2007. Consultants employed by Mexico’s Comision Reguladora de Energia de Mexico (CRE) are expected to complete a technical review of the company’s plan by January.

The offshore Destin Pipeline shut in about 600 MMcf/d of gasthat was flowing on its system Sunday but is expected to resumeflows sometime today pending repairs to a liquids pipelinedownstream of the Pascagoula gas processing plant.

Northern States Power Co. issued a request for proposals (RFP)for up to 1,200 MW of power generation capacity and associatedenergy for a period of 10 years, beginning sometime between May 1,2003, and May 1, 2005. NSP will use the additional resources tomeet increased retail customer demand. NSP is seeking peaking,intermediate and base-load resources. The RFP is open to allsources of power, including renewable resources. NSP will selectwinning proposals based on cost, environmental impact and deliveryguarantees. Before awarding the contract(s), NSP will submit theevaluation of the proposals to the Minnesota Public UtilitiesCommission (MPUC) for review. FERC OKs Merger of Kentucky Utilities

Kentucky’s two largest electric utilities – Louisville Gas andElectric (LG&E) and Kentucky Utilities (KU) – won final FERCapproval for their merger Wednesday, paving the way for itscompletion sometime in the second quarter, the utilities said.
