Long Beach, CA, Port Revisits Agreement with LNG Developer

A memorandum of understanding (MOU) that would give Sound Energy Solutions (SES) exclusive development rights for its Long Beach, CA, liquefied natural gas (LNG) import terminal is set to expire the end of this week, and the oversight board of the Port of Long Beach is considering whether to extend the agreement. Both sides told NGI that regardless of what the Harbor Commission does, permitting and environmental review work by both sides will continue on the project.

Remington Shareholders to Vote on Helix Acquisition

Dallas-based Remington Oil and Gas Corp. has set a special shareholders meeting for June 29 to approve the merger and acquisition by Helix Energy Solutions Group Inc. Helix, formerly Cal Dive International, agreed earlier this year to pay $27 in cash and provide Remington shareholders 0.436 shares of Helix for each Remington share (see Daily GPI, Jan. 24).

Chevron Energy Services Unit Claims Energy Saving Victory at CA Community College

With a 555 kW natural gas cogeneration system as its central element, Chevron Energy Solutions Friday declared an energy efficiency success story at one of San Diego Community College District’s campuses, Miramar College, claiming 30% energy reductions and $200,000 annual fuel bill savings. The net cost of the energy services contract was $4.5 million after the college received a $555,000 rebate from the state.

Amerada Hess Corp. said it has purchased EnLine Energy Solutions’ natural gas marketing business. EnLine supplies gas to more than 200 commercial, industrial, and municipal customers in North Carolina, South Carolina, Georgia, Tennessee and Virginia. The transaction closed on Aug. 1.

Kelliher: FERC Jurisdiction Critical for Future LNG Infrastructure Development

If FERC loses a jurisdictional battle over the siting of Sound Energy Solutions’ (SES) liquefied natural gas (LNG) import terminal in Long Beach, CA, to the California Public Utility Commission (CPUC), that will spell serious trouble for all future LNG projects facing regulatory review, according to FERC Commissioner Joseph T. Kelliher. A bill was introduced in the House of Representatives last week to make sure that doesn’t happen (see related story).
