Sempra Energy’s Southern California Gas Co. (SoCalGas) has won approval from California regulators to implement a retail rate for providing compressed natural gas (CNG) for customers using it in transportation or other applications.

California regulators have approved Southern California Gas Co.’s (SoCalGas) plans to enhance the state’s largest underground storage facility, with a $200.9 million project that was originally outlined nearly five years ago (see Daily GPI, May 29). It is part of a larger storage expansion by the nation’s largest gas distributor.

Low wholesale natural gas prices haven’t translated into expansions at Sempra Energy’s local distribution companies (LDC) Southern California Gas Co. (SoCalGas) and San Diego Gas and Electric (SDG&E), a Sempra spokesman told NGI last week.

Southern California Gas declared a high-inventory OFO for Monday but as of that afternoon had not renewed it for Tuesday. SoCalGas said it would assess Buy-Back charges to customers who delivered into its system more than 110% of their actual gas usage on the OFO day.

Taking the rare step of issuing an OFO on the morning of its implementation, Southern California Gas (SoCalGas) declared a high-linepack OFO on the Intraday 1 nominations cycle for Wednesday. The giant LDC said it would assess Buy-Back charges in accordance with its rules and tariffs to customers who delivered more than 110% of their actual gas usage on the OFO day. The OFO was extended with the same conditions through Thursday.
