Cooling Trends Have Nearly All Points Flat to Up

No snowstorms are expected except for possibly in some mountainous areas of the West, but quite a few folks may be getting a reminder Tuesday that the winter season isn’t all that long departed. The chillier forecasts, aided slightly by the return of industrial load from its weekend decline, resulted in flat to higher prices at a large majority of trading points Monday.

Northeast Spikes Peak at $22.75; Most Points Softer

With snowstorms remaining in the regional forecast and highs in the 20s due Tuesday in New England and much of New York state, most Northeast citygates skyrocketed by multi-dollar amounts Monday to as high as $22.75 in Transco Zone 6’s New York City pool. However, such super-strength was not matched anywhere else even though the Midwest also faces highs in the 20s or less Tuesday. A few small gains outside the Northeast were heavily outweighed by declines.

Some Northeast Rallies Mix With Overall Softness

Flat to modestly softer numbers were the hallmark of Wednesday’s cash market as the price-supporting characteristics of this week’s snowstorms in the Northeast and Midwest continued to wane. However, gains of up 18 cents were noted at some Northeast citygates.
