Virginia Survey Finds Interest Peaking in Energy Choice

In contrast to energy deregulation skepticism that has become prevalent in various states following the California debacle, more than three out of four Virginians say they are interested in the Commonwealth’s move to a competitive energy supply market, according to the latest Virginia Energy Choice (VEC) survey. The results show an increase from another survey taken earlier this year.

LADWP Chief Cites Concerns about Probe, Energy Bill and RTO

Contrary to skepticism raised in an ongoing probe by the California legislature, the nation’s largest municipal utility has done nothing wrong in its wholesale power sales over the past two years, and the state asked for a new short-term power deal for this summer, according to Los Angeles Department of Water and Power General Manager David Wiggs, who spoke last Thursday at a media briefing in Washington, DC.

Challenges, Skepticism Face Puget Energy Despite Record 2Q Results

Significant balance sheet challenges kept at least one Wall Street rating agency restrained in its outlook following Bellevue, WA-based Puget Energy’s report of record second quarter earnings last Thursday. Puget’s second quarter results showed $29.4 million, or 34 cents/common share, in net income, compared to second quarter results last year of $17.4 million, or 20 cents/share.
