Sioux Falls, SD-based NorthWestern Energy Corp. on Tuesday said it has purchased operating and nonoperating natural gas production interests in Montana’s Bear Paw Basin from privately held, Houston-based NFR Energy LLC.

NorthWestern Buys Montana Natural Gas Reserves

In a deal that also includes the local gathering pipeline system, Sioux Falls, SD-based NorthWestern Energy Corp. earlier in September announced that it had bought a majority interest in the Battle Creek Natural Gas Field on Sweetgrass Arch in Blaine County, MT, from a private owner. It includes the seller’s interest in the Battle Creek Gathering System Joint Venture.

NorthWestern Shareholders OK Merger; 2Q Results in Red

While its shareholders approved an acquisition of the Sioux Falls, SD- energy holding company, NorthWestern Energy reported second quarter financial results that were in the red, a consolidated net loss of $2.4 million, or 7 cents/share, compared with a larger loss of $3.9 million, for the same period last year. Costs related to the pending agreement to be acquired by Babcock & Brown Infrastructure Limited (BBI) and a decrease in margins contributed to the continuing red ink, NorthWestern said.

S&P Raises NorthWestern’s Credit Rating to BB+

Merger/acquisition target NorthWestern Corp., the Sioux Falls, SD-based utility holding company, received a boost in its credit ratings to “BB+” by Standard & Poor’s Ratings Services Friday, while the rating agency kept its CreditWatch with a “developing implications” designation.

NorthWestern Board Enters Confidentiality Pacts; Strategy Still Under Review

With active pursuers from the private and public sectors courting its favor, Sioux Falls, SD-based NorthWestern Corp.’s board Tuesday confirmed that it has entered confidentiality agreements with an unspecified “select number” of suitors. In a terse status report to shareholders, the board confirmed that its assessment of all of its “strategic options,” including the two outstanding public offers, is still incomplete and it needs what it called “formal due diligence.”

Touting its third quarter financial results as an indication that its post-Chapter 11 bankruptcy reorganization is now complete, Sioux Falls, SD-based NorthWestern Corp. Wednesday reported net income from continuing operations of $9.3 million, or 26 cents/share, compared with a loss from continuing operations of $25.2 million for the same period last year.
