The gas industry was hit with more permanent demand destruction last week as a result of high gas prices. Terra Industries and Mississippi Chemical Corp. announced ammonia and urea plant closures that result in the loss of at least 80 MMcf/d of gas demand (29.2 Bcf/year).

El Paso has postponed until 2003 maintenance shutdowns of the Mojave Topock Station ( DMOJAVE), previously scheduled for Nov. 8-15, and the Mojave Pipeline at Daggett, previously scheduled for Nov. 8. The change was made to accommodate customer scheduling needs during November, El Paso said.
BC Shutdowns Could Impact Winter Drilling
Anadarko Petroleum Corp. confirmed last week that it had shut down two exploration and production projects in the Halfway River First Nation territory in northeastern British Columbia after its employees were asked by the Indian tribe to leave. The shutdown by the world’s largest independent added to growing concern throughout Canada’s oil and gas industry, which could lead to projects being canceled during the upcoming winter season.
