Four Former TXU Corp. executives, including the former vice chairman and COO of TXU Electric and TXU Gas, have set up shop to acquire, construct and manage natural gas assets in North America. The Dallas-based Estrella Energy LP plans to focus on intrastate and regional interstate pipeline assets.

The Federal Energy Regulatory Commission plans to close up shop Thursday as a precaution while Hurricane Isabel threatens to plow through the Virginia, Maryland and Washington, DC region. Congress also plans to scale back its activities.

IntercontinentalExchange (ICE) flexed its muscles on Thursday, revealing its strong position in the U.S. over-the-counter (OTC) natural gas market. The exchange said about one million natural gas contracts have been cleared through its system since March with a notional value of about $10 billion. ICE said it also set a new daily cleared volume record for natural gas transactions in the United Kingdom on Thursday and has cleared more than one billion therms in the that country since September.

DTE Energy Co. announced earlier this week that it is closing upshop on its residential and small commercial marketing efforts, atleast for the time being. The Detroit, MI-based company’sderegulated energy marketing company, DTE Edison America, said itwill halt operations in New Jersey and Pennsylvania in May,effectively withdrawing DTE Energy from all deregulated massmarketing efforts.
