As a shivering North America closed out a week of brutal cold up North and unusual cold down South — with more to come over the weekend — reports of new peak day delivery records for natural gas pipelines were starting to trickle in.

NYC Spikes Again; Nearly All Other Points Drop

It’s still pretty cold in most places, especially the shivering Northeast, but there was enough of a moderating trend under way in such areas as the western South, Midcontinent/Midwest and Southwest that prices fell at nearly all points Thursday. The 17.6-cent decline in February futures the day before also contributed negative guidance to cash numbers.

NYC Quotes Hit $17.50; Non-Northeast Points Soften

The price fires got reignited Thursday in the shivering Northeast, only a day after early-week spikes had appeared to be settling down for the most part. Transco Zone 6-New York City prices topped out at $17.50 in super-volatile trading that saw the same point quoted at less than $9. Other Northeast points saw triple-digit gains in a few cases.
