Futures Creep Higher Despite ‘Bearish’ Storage Build

After seesawing on Friday morning from a low of $4.287 just prior to the regular session’s open to a high of $4.454 just prior to the 10:30 a.m. EST release of fresh storage data, December natural gas futures knee-jerked lower after the Energy Information Administration (EIA) revealed that 25 Bcf had been injected into underground storage for the week ending Nov. 6. However, the move was short-lived.

May natural gas futures on Wednesday continued to consolidate as market watchers were still unsure of the contract’s next move. After seesawing a bit, the prompt month ended up settling at $7.558, down 1.4 cents on the session.

Futures Prices Lower Before, After Storage Data

After seesawing throughout most of the morning, futures pricestumbled again Wednesday as traders surveyed the threat of freshbearish fundamental news. The front-month January contract finisheddown 7.2 cents to $1.886 at the close, barely off session lows of$1.88. Estimated volume was a healthy 67,274.
