After satisfying final technical requirements, San Diego-based Sempra Energy March 1 obtained final Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC) approval to begin re-exporting liquefied natural gas (LNG) supplies from its Cameron import terminal in Hackberry, LA. However, a Sempra LNG spokesperson would not say whether any cargoes were ready to be reshipped. Sempra won the federal approval for re-export Jan. 20, but there were some conditions it still had to meet. “Based on staff’s review of your filing [Feb. 28] Cameron LNG LLC has satisfactorily addressed all of the hazard and operability study recommendations needed to commence service,” said FERC’s Lauren O’Donnell, who is director of gas: environment and engineering.

J.D. Power Ranks Gas Utility Work with Business

J.D. Power and Associates on Thursday released its rankings for natural gas utilities’ work satisfying business customers on a regional basis. Dividing the nation into four broad areas, Washington, DC’s Washington Gas Light, PSNC Energy in North Carolina, MidAmerican Energy Holdings Co. and Southwest Gas Corp. topped the lists in the East, South, Midwest and West regions, respectively.

Natural gas marketers on average have done a poor job ofsatisfying their customers this year, according to a biennialreport issued by Mastio & Co. last week. Thirty-six out of 77marketers got unsatisfactory report cards from their customers inthis area compared to 1997, it said, while only 16 marketers showedimprovement.
