North American shale gas, particularly in the United States, has proven an energy cost-saving miracle for consumers who otherwise would be staring at prices three or four times higher, according to reports released Thursday by Toronto-based TD Group, the holding company for TD Bank.

Global gas producer BG Group plc said net profits for the second quarter were hobbled by a $1.3 billion post-tax charge against its shale assets in the United States and that it would reduce drilling activity there in response to continuing low natural gas prices.

25 Million Light-Duty NGVs Worldwide Forecast By 2019
There could be more than 25 million light-duty natural gas vehicles (NGV) on the road worldwide by the end of 2019 when annual NGV sales are projected to reach 3.2 million, according to a report issued Wednesday by Navigant Consulting’s Boulder, CO-based Pike Research unit. There are currently slightly more than two million NGVs around the world.

‘Depressed’ Gas Prices Force PDC to Suspend Marcellus Drilling
PDC Mountaineer (PDCM), a joint venture (JV) of Petroleum Development Corp. (PDC) and Lime Rock Partners V LP, will temporarily suspend drilling in the Marcellus Shale “due to the current depressed natural gas price environment,” according to Denver-based PDC.
