National Grid US named John Donleavy chief operating officer covering natural gas and electric utility operations in New York, Massachusetts and Rhode Island, according to National Grid US President Tom King. Donleavy is the former CEO of Vermont Electric Co. King credited Donleavy with leading an enterprise-wide business process transformation and the largest capital infrastructure construction program in the company’s and Vermont’s history. Reporting to King, Donleavy will oversee all aspects of National Grid’s operations in the United States, including gas and power transmission/distribution systems, generation, liquefied natural gas control center operations, emergency planning and a variety of operating, safety and environmental programs.

New York Legislators OK Bill to Prevent Water ‘Overconsumption’

New York legislators have sent Gov. Andrew Cuomo a bill intended to improve the state’s water management, using a permitting program to prevent “overconsumption” by large-scale users, which may include the energy industry.

Weaver’s Cove Energy’s fall-back proposal to site a controversial liquefied natural gas (LNG) terminal in the middle of Mount Hope Bay off the coasts of Rhode Island and Massachusetts and transport the LNG onshore by pipeline may be doable without interfering with other commercial and recreational vessels, according to a report from the U.S. Coast Guard.

NewEnergy is seeking natural gas supply for its commercial,institutional and municipal customers in Massachusetts, RhodeIsland and Connecticut. The company issued a request for proposals(RFP) for an undetermined amount of supply this week. Stephen J.Remen, a managing director in NewEnergy’s New England office, saidthe amount will be determined after a supplier is found and a salesproposal can be sent out to NewEnergy’s customers, which numbermore than 20,000 in the three states. “This new gas RFP willposition us to offer both electricity and natural gas service toincreasing numbers of customers as we anticipate the marketbecoming more competitive in the months ahead,” said Remen. “As themarket continues to evolve we want to solicit bids on gas supply tomaximize the dollar savings that we can offer our customers.” TheRFP requires citygate delivery and behind-the-citygatetransportation management. The original request was grantedby the the PUC’s Division of Public Utilities and Carriers (theDivision) in March but it was subject to PUC approval.
